Western New England...University??

The best kept secret (OK, not really) is that Western New England College will become Western New England University. The rumors are...TRUE! We are pleased to announced that effective July 1, 2011 WNEC will become WNE! After 60 years of adopting the Western New England name, there will be a switch to a University. This means that everything from t-shirts to brochures to websites to business cards will all change. We have quite a busy summer planned this year!

The President of Western New England, Dr. Anthony Caprio had these comments announcing the transition to a university, “The name university better reflects our growth, our diversity, our expanded graduate offerings, and our comprehensive nature. The transition to University status will position Western New England to fulfill our potential as a regional and national leader.”

The name change was first outlined in the strategic plan in 2009. The school hopes that by changing names we will develop our international and domestic populations. Students and parents from different regions (especially on the international level) have varying definitions of a 'college' and we hope that the transition to a university will remind these students that Western New England represents the highest education possible.
